Venue and Space

A venue is the location where an event takes place. This could be a museum, cultural centre, school or public square, for example.

A space is a specific area within a place, such as a hall, seminar room or stage.

Venues

Complete and accurate venue information is important because a venue is shared across many events and different kulturbytes services. The information can be used to display the venue on maps, help visitors find and contact it, provide directions and distance-based searches, and give event visitors additional information about the location.

Because a venue can be used for many events, maintaining its information in one central place also ensures that changes to an address, geographical position, website or other details are reflected consistently across all associated events.

A venue can also contain spaces, allowing events to specify not only where they take place, but also the particular room, hall or stage within the venue.

Geographical position

The geographical position shows exactly where a place is located.

It is important so that kulturbytes can display the place on a map. It also allows users to find events in the surrounding area and sort them by distance.

Make sure that the geographical position is as accurate as possible and points to the correct location.

Spaces

A venue can contain several spaces, such as a hall, stage or seminar room. For example, a cultural centre might have a Main Hall that is used for concerts, theatre performances and other events. Each space can be enriched with additional information, including accessibility information. This can be particularly relevant for visitors who need to know whether a space is wheelchair accessible, has step-free access, accessible toilets or other facilities before attending an event. When this information is maintained centrally, it can be reused for all events taking place in the space.

For an event

When creating an event, you can specify both the place and the space.

For example:

Concert Kühlhaus Flensburg Main Hall

The venue tells you where the event takes place. The space specifies which area within the venue is being used.

Tip

Create a place only once. You can then use it for multiple events.

Spaces only need to be created once as well. This ensures that the address, geographical position and other information remain consistent and do not have to be entered again for every event.
